April 30 – A 58-year-old Arizona man is jailed in Anchorage on Friday after being charged Monday with assaulting a 16-year-old woman on a flight from Phoenix.
Capueli Talaias, 58, deliberately had sex with a 16-year-old girl who was sitting next to him during a flight Monday night, federal prosecutors say. Anchorage’s grand jury on Wednesday accused him of sexual misconduct.
The girl, who did not know Talaiasi, was in the seat of her “adult son”, according to a memorandum filed in Anchorage District Court on Thursday. Talaias sat in the hallway seat. His son was sleeping in the window seat.
According to the memorandum, Talaias touched the girl with his elbow and then with his hand. He tried to leave but could not get inside the seat. Prosecutors say he also tried to push his hand.
“The victim used the Notes application on his phone to write a note in which it was written: “Give my phone to my father. “Ask Dad if we can change the spots if the old man keeps having sex with me,” the memo reads.
According to his document, he passed the phone to a friend sitting in front of him. The friend passed the phone to the victim’s father, who immediately called the flight attendants. The flight crew separated the girl և Talayasi.
Airport police greeted the flight when it arrived at the gate and arrested Talayasi, who was later arrested by the FBI, according to federal prosecutors.
“He confessed that he had bad thoughts when he saw a minor next to him, and described how the devil tempted him,” said the memo, which argued that Arizona should be imprisoned in Alaska rather than allowed to fly home for persecution. “Talaias confessed that when he saw the victim crying, he began to feel guilty because he had his own adult daughter.”
As of Friday, Talaias was being held at the Anchorage Correctional Facility.
